I wonder which knob decided to differ the spelling of words that are commonly used in two major countries. For example Australia spells colour with a 'u' in it whilst Americans spell it 'color.' I mean, what's the point of that!? It's hard enough to learn a whole new language and symbols for that language, and then we've got to remember how to spell words between two countries even though they are both english speaking. Dude! Lol, just seems a lot of hassle for no real reason. What bought on this train of thought you might ask? I was speaking to an american friend of mine via MSN and he had a go at me for mispelling colour. I've always known our countries spell things differently but he didn't, which i found surprising, and he asked me why. I had absolutely no idea and then we wondered who the hell would change spellings of commonly used words from one country to another...anyway, does anybody know?
Another thing we spoke about was slang. He wasked me what i was up to and i old him that a friend had rang me up and said "Come round." He didn't understand what i meant. "It's anothe way of saying come over and visit." I explained. He thought that was pretty weird. Then he proceeded to ask me for Australian slang words/sayings so i told him a few that are as follows.

- I especially loved this one when they used it in The Dukes of Hazard "Let's chuck another shrimp on the barbie." However, even though a lot of people seem to think we say this rather regularly it's not that common.
- "Your lump 'a' lead" Means your head. My Pop uses this all the time.
- "Corka" means Great or Well Done
- "Conk/Conka" means nose, another of my Pops favourites (Let me just add that my family is pretty darn True Blue we say a lot of slang sayings that have probably been long forgotten by a lot of Aussies.)
- "Joe Blake" means cake or snake, for example, "Look out for Joe Blakes." or "Pass us another bit of Joe Blake."
- "Brekky" of course, means Breakfast.
- "Snag" is sausage.
- "Okka" means True Blue eg: "He's a real Okka mate!"
- "Tinnie" is a Beer.
- "I'll shout/My shout." Means i'll buy - commonly heard at the pub
- "Cobba" means mate.
- "Cuppa" is Coffee
- "You're as loud as a Gum tree full of Galah's" is not one that's heard very often anymore, but implies exactly that.
- "Tucker" is food.
- "Barbie" of course is short for BBQ
- "Bikkie" = biscuit
- "Bonza/Ripper" means Fantastic/Great
- "Clacker" means anus of course (Which reminds me of a quote from Rove, "Silly clacker bumhole!!!" Haha, go Pete and his random sayings.)
- "Billie" means cup of tea/kettle, "i'll put the billie on" "How about a billie."
- "Mad as a cut snake." means very angry.
- "Dag" means geek, silly, goof.
and there are millions millions more, if you wanna know more visit this webite http://www.koalanet.com.au/australian-slang.html
